How to Create AI Photos With Gemini: Beginner Guide

Google Gemini can create photos from plain text. You type what you want to see, and Gemini's image tool generates the picture in a few seconds. You do not need any design skill or paid app to start. This guide shows you how to create your first AI photo with Gemini on your phone, step by step, with tips to get better results.

How to Create AI Photos With Gemini: Beginner Guide

What Do You Need Before You Start?

  • An Android phone or iPhone with internet
  • The Google Gemini app (free on Play Store and App Store) or gemini.google.com in your browser
  • A Google account to sign in
  • Your age matters: Google's help page says you must be 13 or over (or the applicable age in your country) to generate images, and 18 or over to edit images (as of Oct 2026, Gemini Apps Help)

How to Create an AI Photo in Gemini?

  1. Open the Gemini app or go to gemini.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
  2. In the chat box, type what photo you want. Start your prompt with words like "create an image of" or "generate a photo of" so Gemini knows you want a picture, not text.
  3. Tap send. Gemini creates the image in a few seconds.
  4. Tap the image to open it, then tap the download icon to save it to your gallery.

Another way in: Google's help page also describes a dedicated Images option. In the Gemini app on Android, tap Menu at the top left, then Images, and either choose a template or type your prompt. On a computer, open the sidebar on gemini.google.com and choose Images.

Saving and sharing your photo

  • In the mobile app: You can also touch and hold the image, then tap Save to download it to your phone.
  • In a browser: hover over the image and choose Download full size.
  • Share button: tapping Share creates a public link to the image. Anyone with that link can see it, so for a personal photo, save it and send the file instead.
  • Size: 1K without a Google AI plan, 2K with one (as of Oct 2026, source).

How to Write a Good Prompt for AI Photos?

The prompt is everything. A short, vague prompt gives a boring image. A clear, detailed prompt gives a photo you will actually want to share. Compare these:

  • Weak: "a girl with a diya"
  • Better: "a photo of a young woman in a red saree holding a lit diya, warm Diwali lights in the background, evening, realistic photography style"

Useful things to add to any prompt: who or what is in the photo, the place, the lighting (golden hour, soft light, night), the style (realistic photo, 3D cartoon, watercolour), and the mood (festive, calm, dramatic).

Google's own image page suggests a simple formula to start from: create an image of + subject + action + scene, and then add detail.

Prompt builder: one line at a time

PartWhat to writeExample
StartTell Gemini you want a pictureCreate an image of
SubjectWho or what is in ita chaiwala at a small roadside stall
ActionWhat the subject is doingpouring tea from a height
ScenePlace and timebusy market street, early morning
LightType of lightsoft golden sunlight
StyleLook of the imagerealistic photo, close-up
MoodFeelingwarm and cheerful

Put together: "Create an image of a chaiwala at a small roadside stall pouring tea from a height, busy market street in the early morning, soft golden sunlight, realistic photo, close-up, warm and cheerful." Then refine with one change at a time, like "make it evening".

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Too many ideas in one prompt: keep one main subject.
  • Asking for exact text without saying where: if you want words on a poster, write the exact words in quotes and say where they go, for example: the words "Happy Diwali" at the top.
  • Using other people's photos without asking: Google asks you not to violate others' copyright or privacy rights.

Why Is Gemini Not Creating My Image?

  • It replied with text instead of an image: your prompt did not clearly ask for a picture. Add "create an image of" at the start.
  • It refused the prompt: Gemini blocks some content, like real people's faces in certain uses or unsafe topics. Rewrite the prompt in a safer way.
  • Free limit reached: the free version has daily image limits. Wait for the next day or try a simpler prompt.
  • App is not working: update the Gemini app or use gemini.google.com in Chrome instead.
  • Image disappeared after it was made: Google says Gemini may remove images when its systems detect a possible violation of its Terms of Service or Prohibited Use Policy. Change the prompt and try again.
  • Not sure how much you have left: Gemini's usage limits are compute-based. Google says they refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit, and Gemini shows a notice telling you when your limit refreshes (as of Oct 2026, Gemini limits page). Image requests use more of your limit than text chats.

Can Gemini Edit My Own Photos Too?

Yes. You can upload a photo from your gallery and ask Gemini to change it, for example "put this person on a beach at sunset" or "make this photo look like a painting". We covered a similar flow with ChatGPT in our photo editing with ChatGPT guide.

To edit, upload the photo using the plus (+) or upload button in the chat box, then type the change you want. You can also ask Gemini to change an image it made for you earlier. Google's help page notes that editing images is not available to users under 18 (as of Oct 2026). Keep your original photo saved.

Quick Checklist Before You Post Your AI Photo

  • Check hands, eyes and any text: AI tools still get small details wrong sometimes.
  • If a real person is in it, do they know and agree?
  • Could it be mistaken for a real event? Then say it is AI-made.
  • Have you saved the file, not just a share link?

FAQs on Creating AI Photos With Gemini

Is Gemini free for creating images? Yes, the free version lets you create images with a daily limit. A paid plan gives higher limits and newer models.

Plans (as of Oct 2026): Google lists Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, all available in India, with higher usage limits than the free version. Paid subscribers can also use "Redo with Pro" on an image for more detail. Source: Gemini Apps limits & feature availability.

Can I use the AI photos on Instagram or WhatsApp? Yes, images you create are yours to share. Some uses of AI images of real people are restricted by Google's rules.

Which is better for AI photos, Gemini or ChatGPT? Both are good. Gemini is deeply integrated with Google accounts on Android, so it is the easiest to start with on most phones.

Do I need English prompts? English prompts usually work best, but Gemini understands Hindi and other languages too.

Can Gemini put Hindi text inside an image? Google says its image model can add text to images with more accurate spelling for all supported languages (as of Oct 2026). Keep it short and check the spelling.
